Dickens' final book warns of the corrupting effects of money and ambition, set among the high society of Victorian London. It is full of colorful characters and exciting plot twists. Strangely, the original manuscript of this book had to be rescued from the remains of a train crash in which Dickens was involved.

That Old Dickens!

Any lover of Eng. Lit. Will enjoy this last novel of his--but it requires endless patience to sort out all the characters and keep straight the complex of plot threads. Very funny in spots, and way too sentimental toward his heroines, as always, but readers will enjoy groveling in the chill, gritty, charcoal fog with its endless swindlers, phonies and cold blooded killers.
