Oregon is a unique land formed by volcanic fire and glacial ice. Early nomadic tribes settled in villages among the tall trees and hunted a plethora of wild game. The Willamette Valley is one of the world's most fertile regions and that brought the pioneers of the fledgling United States in search of a hopeful future. Caleb Tanner was the first of the Tanner family to come west. At seventeen, the small Irish boy, trained as a blacksmith, struck a bargain with a tall spinster to join a wagon train that would take no single members. Far to the south, two runaway slaves sought a path to freedom through the corridor of Mexico to find their way to the promised land of Oregon. Seven generations of the Tanner family built a logging empire though the years enduring the Civil War, the Indian Wars, World War One, World War Two, and the Viet Nam War. They navigated the Pandemic, Prohibition, and the Great Depression. During all this they held on to their family secrets of mixed race. From the back alleys of Shanghai, and the makeshift barracks of Japanese internment camps the women of the Tanner family gave birth to sons who would influence the Pacific Norhtwest. All this time the land itself had its own secret, a coiled spring about the break loose. Beneath the shelf of the continent, a tectonic clock was ticking. The final Tanner son is a geologist who warns of the coming disaster, and no one listens. Historical fiction at its finest by the author, Steve Stelle, known for his deeply descriptive prose of action and adventure, this saga unveils the story of Oregon and a founding family that lived through it all. Intricately plotted with memorable characters, you will find yourself pondering the unfolding events long after you are finished reading. Ficción Histórica Guerra China
