Set in the universe Africanfuturist luminary Nnedi Okorafor first introduced in the World Fantasy Award-winning Who Fears Death, One Way Witch is the second in the She Who Knows trilogy

The world has forgotten Onyesonwu.

As a teen, Najeeba learned to become the beast of wind, fire and dust: the kponyungo. When that took too much from her, including the life of her father, she let it all go, and for a time, she was happy—until only a few years later, when the small, normal life she’d built was violently destroyed.

Now in her forties and years beyond the death of her second husband, Najeeba has just lost her beloved daughter. Onyesonwu saved the world. Najeeba knows this well, but the world does not. This is how the juju her daughter evoked works. One other person who remembers is Onyesonwu’s teacher Aro, a harsh and hard-headed sorcerer. Najeeba has decided to ask him to teach her the Mystic Points, the powerful heart of sorcery. There is something awful Najeeba needs to kill and the Mystic Points are the only way. Najeeba is truly her daughter’s mother.

When Aro agrees to help, Najeeba is at last ready to forge her future. But first, she must confront her past—for certain memories cannot lie in unmarked graves.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“Yetide Badaki returns to narrate the next audiobook in the She Who Knows series.… Badaki's portrayal of Najeeba features a raspy speaking voice due to throat damage. Badaki connects to Najeeba's pain and ferocity as she processes her trauma while learning magic from her daughter's teacher, Aro. Badaki's smooth voice and consistent pacing ease listeners through Najeeba's journey to reconnect with her powers and learn the Mystic Points—powerful sorcery that is the only way to destroy the mysterious Cleanser.”AudioFile Magazine

“Fans of Who Fears Death will appreciate the return to this rich, fully realized world, but Okorafor keeps things accessible enough that this works just as well on its own. Readers will devour this.”Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“As always with Okorafor’s work, the prose is sharp and immersive, the characters provide insight into family drama and healing, and the narrative seamlessly blends elements of fantasy, folklore, and speculative fiction… While this book may be short, its impact is anything but small.”Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

I have a love for Nnedi Okorafor’s work. Najeba’s second story brought me to happy and sad tears multiple times and has an unexpectedly beautiful ending (for this series, so far). If you have mothered in any capacity (everyone has children), it’s a brilliant book. And the Afro futurism is also still on point. Just… read it.

Once again, the author embarks on an enthralling journey that captivates the reader with its vivid details and compelling storyline. The conclusion, executed with remarkable precision and intrigue, leaves the reader with a sense of excitement and anticipation. However, the author’s ability to bring this story to a full conclusion was masterfully done. The superb narrator, coupled with the suspenseful narrative, intrigue, and mystery, makes this book a worthwhile read for those who enjoy captivating stories.

A compelling and thrilling must read!

The narration brought this amazing story with its complex humanity alive. It was satisfying and made me want more of the lives of these characters.

Amazing story telling

Again, I was taken up down left and right I will never get enough of reading anything she puts out. I’m always looking forward to being taken on a journey to explore the depths of the human psyche, emotion, and understanding. All based on someone who looks like me priceless.

All emotions explored!!

My favorite author, AND my favorite narrator of audio books. I feel like a traitor to them both by giving these ratings, but I have to be honest. It has taken months to get through this audio book. For me, the story is just not as good as the first book (by light years). Some scenes seemed to go on and on for far too long. I'm all for setting the scene and describing my surroundings (showing the reader and all...), but geez. I found myself thinking (multiple times), "Ok, I get it. Can we move on?"

Perhaps it was the narration, which also surprised me. I felt like she was yelling at me for half the story. She's normally really good at conveying mood without straight yelling into the mic.

TL'DR - story, and narration, were just not as good in book 2. Personally, didn't like the ending. No idea what the last two lines refer to.

Disappointed, Particularly in Regards to the Narration
