Some things in life are even more unbelievable but too uncomfortable to tell, things that hurt yourself and may hurt others if you put real names and places to them. So, for me, writing this book, flowing the time line that I was, in fact, in Vietnam and mixing things up a bit, was the easy way out. I had no intention of ever writing a Historical Novel, and I certainly do it with this book. This is just a story about Navy Corpsmen in Vietnam, one particular one who loses his faith in almost everything, especially God. He wants to know why all this is happening around him and why has God ...

Air Force navigators and bombardiers have long labored under the shadow of pilots - their contributions undervalued, misunderstood, or unknown to the general public. This was especially the case with the non-pilot officer aircrew in the Vietnam and Cold War-era B-52 Stratofortress. Of the six people who operated the bomber, three wore navigator wings - two of those men were also bombardiers, the other an electronic warfare officer. Without the navigator-bombardiers in particular, executing the nuclear war strike plan or flying Southeast Asian bombing sorties would have been impossible.

The Viet-Nam War for America began in 1964, and finally ended in 1975. Nearly 59,000 Americans died, over 300,000 were wounded, and in total, almost 3,000,000 served "in-country." Combat was usually short-lived skirmishes, ambushes, and some longer sustained battles such as Dak To, Khe Sanh, and the 1968 Tet Offensive. No matter where you were stationed, there were always potential hazards to be faced. Allied forces faced not only an armed guerrilla population, but many "natural" hazards to one's health. Every American who served in Viet-Nam and came home after the end of their tour brought...

At the height of the Vietnam War thousands of young men who were drafted into the United States Army for two years of military service found themselves transplanted from their hometowns and neighborhoods directly into ground combat in Vietnam’s jungles and rice paddies within a span of just six months. For many of those fortunate to have survived those two years, the experience turned out to be life altering. This book takes the reader along on a personal voyage into events that unfolded during 1968 and early 1969 when the author served as a young infantryman with Charlie Company, 2nd/...

The Lockheed SR-71, unofficially known as the Blackbird, was an advanced, long-range, Mach 3 strategic reconnaissance aircraft developed by Lockheed Skunk Works. The aircraft flew so fast and high that not one was ever shot down, even by a missile. SR-71 pilot and instructor Colonel Richard Graham offers a rare cockpit perspective on how regular Air Force pilots and navigators transformed themselves into SR-71 Blackbird crews, turning their unique aviation talents to account in an unprecedented way.

There was a truce on New Year’s Day, 1968, and Third Brigade of 25th Infantry Division used the respite to build a new fire support base near the Cambodian border, in a vast forested area of Viet Nam called War Zone C. They called it Fire Support Base Burt, manned by two infantry battalions and three batteries of artillery. When the truce ended at midnight, January 1, the Communist forces in the area responded by launching a massive assault on the base. Vastly outnumbered, the American soldiers repelled attack after attack and eventually forced the enemy to withdraw after suffering ...

Into The Mouth of The Cat: The Story of Lance Sijan, Hero of Vietnam tells the gripping true story of Lance Sijan. He was a United States Air Force captain in the Vietnam War. On November 9, 1967, Sijan was ejected from his F-4 Phantom II at high speed and a low altitude, causing him to suffer massive injuries to his entire body. During his violent ejection and very rough parachute landing on the karst ridge, Captain Lance Sijan suffered a fractured skull, a mangled right hand, with three of his fingers dislocated, and deep cuts and gashes in his forearms, a compound fracture of the left ...

The United States Army drafted Steve in 1969. Like many young men, he was unaware of the consequences of being drafted until being sent to Vietnam. Although his father was also drafted into the Armed Forces for World War II, nothing could have prepared Steve for the year of duty to come. Growing up in a large family, he developed a talent early on for storytelling. His accounts of Vietnam will have you imagining him sitting across a campfire telling his story.

Virtual voice decent on this one...
I suppose that without virtual voice we could not listen to any of this book but it is far to distracting. Suff like KIA, killed in action read as Kia, the car company. Lead, as in the metal, vs lead as in the leader. 9mm a nine-millimeters, instead of 9 millimeter. Give us a real narrator.

A straightforward, no nonsense account of the highlights of an exemplary Air Force career.
Great storytelling of an action filled 10 year Air Force pilot’s service. The author’s grit and determination lead to an amazingly diverse flying career under adverse conditions during the was in SE Asia.
I found the book authoritative, well researched and well written. My audiobook “read” was only marred by the inability of “Virtual Voice” to deal with aircraft and unit numerical designations and its inability to pronounce Vietnamese names.

One too many
I liked this book. The story line was very good. I have read many books on the Vietnam war and this one is one of the better ones. The virtual voice was a disservice to the author's story. The many mispronunciations were distracting and out right pathetic. I would buy this, but not with the virtual voice narration. Meegess (Migs?) and many other problems. Chapter 12 was not in the table of contents. I would not recommend this audible book. Buy the print version of the book instead.

stupid robot
The story was great, the narration not so much. MiGs are pronounced MEEGEES. The 57mm AAA gun is prounounced 57 100ths Millimeter. C-130 is the C onehundredthirty , USAF is yousaf. These are some of the adventures in robot reading.
The story was good, and the Thai who could see the future was weird.
