One Nation, One People: The USCIS 2025 Civics Test Study Guide (M-1175) is a plain-language textbook that prepares prospective citizens for the civics portion of naturalization. It opens with the U.S. Constitution—its 1787 origins, the Preamble’s promise of self-government, and the separation of powers across the legislative, executive, and judicial branches.
The book explains federalism, the amendment process (highlighting the Bill of Rights and later voting-rights expansions), and the principle that the Constitution is the “supreme law of the land.” It then covers state governments, civic rights and responsibilities (from free speech and religion to taxes and Selective Service), and the path to citizenship, including the Oath of Allegiance and eligibility basics.
Geography chapters locate states, territories, borders, rivers, and the nation’s capital. Historical sections trace early Native American societies, colonization and slavery, the American Revolution and Declaration of Independence, nation-building, westward expansion (including the Trail of Tears and the Mexican-American War), the Civil War and emancipation, and 20th-century milestones such as the World Wars, the Great Depression, the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, and September 11, 2001.
The guide closes with American symbols and holidays and an indexed set of 128 official civics questions and answers for study and review.
