Great Thriller!

This was my first D.J. Maughan's book, and won't be my last. One Desperate Life is a captivating story, filled with suspense, mystery, danger, and twists and turns. Louise's story is set in the early 1900s. This thriller is an emotional roller coaster, fast-paced, intriguing, and heart-pounding. The plot is well crafted, and enthralling. Stephanie Richardson is a new narrator to me. She did an excellent job bringing this story to life.

Many turns I didn’t see coming

Traumatic & Unexpected Turns!!

Story that touches on the complexity of a sisterhood relationship in the beginning, and naiveness walking into love for the first time. While this story has many twists and turns that absolutely nobody could expect, as the reader you almost want to scream at the main character for not seeing the obvious sometimes. It’s not quite the love story I was expecting, but conveyed feelings of betrayal and confusion any experienced lover has felt before. A story of trauma of all kinds.

Heart pounding!

This is a true keep you on the edge of your seat guessing book! I highly recommend! And let me just say Louisa is a true heroine. I can't wait to discover more books by the author!

Great listen from start to finish!

Story set in America 1912, the year the Titanic sank. A young woman's perilous journey through young adulthood. Very well written characters. captivating story. Full of suspense and life lessons. The narrator is wonderful to listen to. I absolutely enjoyed this book! Would recommend to everyone!

Twisty and mysterious

This story transported me to a century ago. I enjoyed the mystery and journey. The characters were complex and fun to experience. Good guessing continues throughout without spoilers. The ending was unexpected and surprisingly satisfying.

Great character development

I kept reading and reading this book set in the early 1900s.. The characters had excellent development. A few twists and turns kept me guessing. Highly recommend.

Quick and easy read

The story was easy to follow and It also keeps you intrigued. I liked that it has some romance, as well as some mystery/murder. I will be checking out more of his books.

Wow! What an intense story! I wasn’t sure what to expect when the story began, but boy did it take off!
The story takes place in Chicago in 1912 and follows along with Louise and her powerful journey.
The story is super intense and suspenseful!
It’s also very unique and a well written story.
There are so many mysteries going on and I love how it all was pieced together.

I listened to the audio version and the narrator did an excellent job!
