When I was 23 years old, I found myself hiding in a dorm out of fear that a race riot was about to happen on my college campus. Why? Because Black students had protested the Confederate flag at a football game. It is an odd sensation to be able to look back at the single moment that altered the trajectory of how I related to the world.
