Although Ciivl War Florida contained only two percent of the Confederacy's population, after the fall of Vicksburg in the summer of 1863 the state became an important supplier of cattle to Rebel armies east of the Mississippi River. A few months thereafter it also became a politically advantageous objective for President Abraham Lincoln to capture because it could provide him incremental delegates at his second Presidential nominating convention and electoral added electoral votes for the later November 1864 election. "Olustee and Florida's Cattle Wars" provides a narrative history of the Union's 1864 campaign to capture the state and cut-off cattle supplies to Rebel armies further north.
