And at a food bank two miles from the mountains, two brief encounters that illuminate everything the room cannot say.
Observing is a short story about the loneliness that precedes awareness of itself. About the habit that outlasts the faith behind it. About a man who has always known how to see something luminous and let it pass.
It leaves the reader exactly where it finds him — holding two true things simultaneously, neither one winning.
