For Maximilian Smith, deciding to save two women from a group of drunken thugs is easy. When he’s mortally wounded in the process of rescuing the women, he awakes to find himself with fangs, and a hunger for hot blood. Now, years later, Maximilian Smith is in trouble again. This time fate has dealt him a wild card, and Max finds himself responsible for the fate of two worlds, in addition to his vampiric killer wife, and a starship loaded with vampires looking for a new home, all controlled by a pacifistic AI in an unarmed colony ship. Against him stand millions of unconquerable aliens, in vast fleets of huge starships. Unfortunately, hijackers; terrorists with fangs, are his biggest worry at the moment, and time, he discovers, is his foremost enemy.
