Acerca de esta escucha
Excerpts: “Oh look, Dermot. There's a place up ahead, the Notel Motel. Rooms $9.99. Free cable TV, pool, spa, steam room.”
“Sounds too good to be true. Something's gotta be wrong with it. Why else would the sign say Vacancy, and there are no cars at all in the parking lot?”
“Daddy, the place looks kinda dark and dreary, but it's got a gas pump with a car wash, and they serve food too. Sign says no gas 100 miles.” - - -
Her husband came into the room. “There a problem?”
“Yes, there's a problem! My children were kidnapped, my daughter is hanging by her wrists in the motel room. I'm calling the sheriff!”
“No phone.”
“I'll drive!” He turned around to notice his automobile missing. “Where's my damn car?” - - -
“Hello, everybody. Welcome to the Notel Ranch. I'm in charge of your indoctrination here. We may look like a local operation, but we are actually global in scope. We will attempt to auction you off to the highest bidder. Anyone who has not been sold in one week becomes a Notel Girl. I will be pimping you out to wealthy locals once you are properly trained. If you fail to perform to our satisfaction, you will be zapped.”
She held up what appeared to be a flashlight, then flipped it around and pushed a button. ZAP. A loud electric spark shot out, so loud it made everyone jump.
“If being stunned fails to motivate you into eager cooperation, you will be harvested for body parts.” - - -
A storm was approaching. A flash of lightning lit up the sky, revealing the silhouette of the haunted-looking house up on the hill. It gave Jeanie pause.
“I think this was a bad idea. It's not fair of me to bother you with my problem. I'm going to go.” She tried to pull her hand from his. He wouldn't let her.... She resisted, he punched her, then threw her over his shoulder and proceeded up the path. - - -
“Hello. Funniest thing happened. That damn direction finder app. I entered the right city into the GPS but clicked on the wrong choice for the state. I was so distracted talking on my phone, I didn't realize I was driving in the wrong direction for several hours. Silly me. My car ran out of gas a few miles up the road. I tried calling Triple-A, but no signal. I'm so totally lost. I saw your bright sign lighting up the car wash building, no other lights anywhere, so hoofed it here. Anyway, I need to use your phone.” - - -
“My pants are off. This is fun, Sheriff! It feels so liberating taking off all my clothes, throwing them away in the middle of nowhere, getting naked and totally vulnerable. Happy now?”
“Happier. Window.”
She held them up to the opening and the 55-mph wind sucked them out.
“Now the top, sweetheart. Pull it open. I want those buttons popping off!”
She obeyed, her top now quickly gone, her bra too.
“Give me the panties. I'll hang them from my mirror as a souvenir.” - - -
I don't know much about seduction. I've generally been on the receiving end, well always actually, and I've never been sexual with another woman before. - - -
Kidneys are prohibitively expensive. Those little suckers cost over $200,000. We sell them wholesale for $100,000. Everyone has two, you can live with only one. We take both kidneys from the men, only one from the women. When a young woman fails to bring in enough money, we take her second one. Hearts and livers each go for a hundred grand as well. Ka-ching. - - -

awful
I couldn't get past 10 minutes. The AI voice is horrible and the story line, not much better. It might be a little more tolerable with a different reader. FYI: Not a book for anyone who is triggered by abuse.
