Sometimes trusting your instincts…
Can be murder.
Evelyn Foster is finally confident that Atlas is ready to pass the rigorous tests to become a fully certified cadaver dog. After a flurry of last-minute training to get her furry buddy as ready as he can possibly be, Eve meets with experienced volunteers from Michigan Mutts Search and Aid to put Atlas through the first in a series of tests.
Excited to get him started, Eve is entirely baffled when Atlas completely ignores repeated commands to search and keeps circling back around to one of the volunteers, a man from Marquette. It seems as though Atlas is more interested in the treats that he can smell in the man’s pocket than in doing his job.
Disappointed and frustrated, Eve is on the verge of giving up and going home but decides to trust Atlas’ instincts. She asks the volunteer from Marquette if they can search him and his vehicle. The volunteer agrees and Atlas gives a hard alert when he’s taken to the volunteer’s trunk.
Atlas passes his test with flying colors when the trunk is opened, and a body is discovered.
The volunteer claims that he is innocent, and he is eventually allowed to leave, but Eve suspects that he knows more than he’s letting on.
Can she team up with her canine buddies and crack the case? Find out in this exciting Canine Cozy Mystery!

In this next installment, Eve was hoping to get a reprieve from the chaos of the last few months in Granite, Michigan.
Atlas is up for his final certification as a cadaver dog with Eve. They meet his breeder and Eve's training mentor, Jan, and two other search and rescue volunteers, including Oliver and his dog Jackson, who were supposed to provide distractions.
Atlas starts his test by immediately back tracking, straight to Oliver. After trying to refocus Atlas's attention, Jan suggests Eve letting him do his work. Atlas beelines straight for Oliver's trunk and alerts. What they find, leaves everyone shaken.
Eve couldn't stop wondering what she missed about Oliver and his life even though they'd known each other for years through the volunteer search and rescue team.
I thought I had this mystery solved quickly and I was STILL wrong and I love being fooled.
I got to listen to this story, narrated by Julie Mckay, aka Maxine Mitchell, through Blue Nose Audio on their app as an advanced listener copy along with Ring Leader and Bite Moves. These stories are short, 7 hours total for all three books. They're not overly gory or graphic and are a nice palate cleanser for some of the heavier books I usually go for.
I'm totally invested in this series now and I am so excited for more.
