Resumen del Editor

Murder, Revenge, Romance and Organized Crime in a Small Beach Town

A brutal murder ends Matt's quiet life as a small town police officer after he discovers an organized crime ring that politicians ignore. This murder mystery thriller will grab you, especially if you love dogs and cats.

  • Why is the shelter director known as the Grim Reaper?
  • Did some mobster in the organized crime ring kill him?
  • Was the murder committed by an animal advocate?
  • Or was it a ghost who hated the victim?
  • Who is the anonymous blogger pouring gasoline on the flames of community outrage?
  • And why is Clara lying to Matt?

Animal shelter issues

While I enjoyed listening to Kevin Iggens narration of the story, there were times I wished I had been reading a book. There were parts that I would like to have skipped over. I know people have opposing views, but I found it difficult to hear them. Stirred up too much emotion. Also not a fan of ghosts. Overall the story is worthwhile and enjoyable. The good characters were quite likeable, while the bad ones were despicable. The narrator provided a copy for my enjoyment. I am voluntarily reviewing the audiobook.

Good Murder Mystery/Animal Rights/Romance

No Kill Station: Murder at Rehoboth Beach by Diane Meier is her first novel according to the afterword in the audiobook. For a first novel, it is pretty good. The story is about a murder at a SPCA shelter in Deleware where the Director is killed. I am a strong believer in the no-kill shelter program myself but the continued tangents in the external and internal characters dialogue about the reason why No Kill shelters are best for animals became overbearing and took away from the story. I do recommend this audiobook though because it was fun when I learned to just tune that part out after the 4th or 5th time. There is a great story in here.

The narration is provided by Kevin Iggens. This is the first performance that I have heard from Mr. Iggens but it was a very enjoyable performance.

For animal lovers

I received a copy of this book for an honest review. I liked the story. The only thing is that the narrator was a bit dull. There is fantasy and along with what happens in real life. I wasn’t sure if I could finish it because of the narrator but the story was what kept me listening. Got me angry, sad and happy in the same hr. Still amazes me how much of the story of the book actually happens in real life.

Eye opening listen!

I found this book to be eye opening, educational and disturbing, along with well written. I am a pet lover and had difficulty with some of the issues described in the story. I am bothered by breed bands that some cities impose. The breed does not make a dog bad, but rather how the dog is treated. My eyes were opened to how deplorable some kennel procedures were taken care. This book focuses on some Pit-Bull and Pit-Bull mixes along with feral cats, in regards to the fate that awaits many of them. The idea of animal shelters becoming kill free is ideal. I do not agree with current convenience killing, but rather retraining of animals. Also, I think if shelters supported rescue groups efforts in placing animals, there will be less animals in the shelters. In addition, animal control officers and police need better training in dealing with pets.
Regarding the murder in this book, it was well written but not the main focus. There were also some surprising twists in this book. I do not like giving away spoilers in my reviews, but the book is a standalone listen and gives hope. I thought the narrator did a good performance, but he did not have distinguishable voices for all characters he performed. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review.

Murder and mayhem at the animal shelter...

Matt is a cop on the small police force at Rehoboth Beach. He receives a call from the local animal shelter and, upon arrival, discovers the body of the shelter's director. The director was also a close friend of the mayor. The mayor calls in a favor with the governor and Matt is put on the case as an assistant to the state trooper that is assigned to the case. Meanwhile, we learn that Matt used to be a cop in Baltimore but moved to the quieter city since he is a single parent. His landlady has passed away and now her daughter is in town and occasionally helping to watch his son after school. Inevitably, the two grow close and start dating...sort of :-). When Matt and Aiden (trooper) begin their investigation, they discover that the director wasn't as well liked as originally thought. There were questionable practices and possible violation of shelter laws. The acting director isn't squeaky clean either...and the pair are made aware of the shelter selling animals to a dog fighting ring...when they're not quickly killing the dogs/cats that had been picked up by animal control officers. Will Matt and Aiden get to the bottom of the corruption at the shelter and put an end to the cruelty to the animals? Will the killer get away with murder? There is some paranormal activity in the form of the landlady's ghost..she's still blogging. ;-) Will Matt and Clara, the LL daughter, make a go at a relationship? No spoilers but to say that there is an HEA :-)
Overall the story was good, however, it felt a bit bogged down at times by too much detail into the kill-shelters and laws.

Cosy mystery for animal lovers

This is a cosy mystery that animal lovers will definitely enjoy. As well as an entertaining murder story, it covers issues of pet overpopulation, kill vs no kill centres, greed and animal cruelty politics in the US. It also has an enjoyable bit of romance and a splash of supernatural too. The narrator fit the story well, he easily pulled you into the story and his pace was just right. All in all, it’s an easy listening entertaining audiobook.

No kill station

This audiobook is enjoyable to listen to. It's fun discovering a couple of surprises. It’s an interesting story—with a supernatural elements weaved in—about a corrupt SPCA shelter director’s crimes and indiscretions being uncovered.

Great story; great message.

The obvious social commentary woven into this book is a topic that definitely brings out the passion in many people. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and almost subtle way the author provided a case for no-kill animal treatment for dogs and cats. I also liked the way the authored called out the mainstream media for ostracizing pit bulls.

No Kill Station:Murder at Rehoboth Beach

I found this book preachy and right wing pander. The SPCA is the big bad guy in Delaware, evidently. When the director is found murdered everyone is a suspect, even the cat ladies. There is a weird touch of the supernatural tossed in.Kevin Iggens is a good narrator.“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”
