Resumen del Editor

A human-trafficking case hits dangerously close to home in a heart-racing thriller by the Amazon Charts bestselling author of The King Tides.

A disturbing missing-person case reunites ex-Navy SEAL Jon Lancaster and FBI Agent Beth Daniels. Skye is just one of a dozen young women who have disappeared from Florida without a trace. Beth can do more than just imagine their fear. She was a victim herself - a trauma that’s strengthened her fight for justice.

Then Lancaster uncovers a scrap of evidence, and the mystery begins to unravel. But the lead comes with a personal sting: the involvement of his estranged brother, Logan, an ex-con recruited into the shepherding of human trade. The only way for Logan to shed his demons is to come clean. For Lancaster and Daniels, that means being drawn, secret by secret, into a dangerous underground world.

With time running out, three damaged pasts will collide; more secrets will spill; and Lancaster, Daniels, and Logan will have to fight to save themselves first if they ever hope to find the girls alive.

Timely...

This is the second book in the Lancaster and Daniels series. These books can each be read as a stand alone. The publisher’s summary gives more than enough information so I don’t want to add to that.
I know this book was written before the trafficking of young girls byJeffrey Epstein but in the wake of his activities coming to light , this book seems all too believable. Having two daughters makes me cringe at the idea that someone could look at them as commodities. Anyway, the character development is (especially for Jon Lancaster ) is excellent. His history with his wayward brother is detailed and heartbreaking. This adds to his doggedness as well as his guilt driving him to solve the kidnappings, protect the victims and take vengeance on the perpetrators.
Very well written with bits of humor throughout.
Patrick Lawler does an excellent job narrating.

Not that much nuance with narration

The second book of the series, read through Kindle Unlimited.

Swain tends to explain each and every thing the characters do. I appreciate the facts about how Team Adam works, as I had never heard about them prior to this series. However, explaining how private channels on YouTube works seemed like he did not his audience to know this, to me, basic fact of today's social media. His writing also uses unnecessary and extra words. One example: "The boat was called a bowtie." I'm sure "The boat was a bowtie" is sufficient. Reading through this book reminds me a teacher explaining everything exhaustively.

Story-wise, I found it engrossing. We learn more of Jon Lancaster's background, values and character. He's a lot more gray than he appeared in the first book. He's quite perceptive and manipulative when he wants to be.

The motive for the kidnappings is dark, so I thought it a good call on Lancaster not to share it with Nicki.

Narration-wise, I didn't feel there was much nuance between the characters and the women characters set my teeth on edge.

As mentioned before I borrowed this book through my Kindle Unlimited subscription. Would I single-purchase it, if I didn't have the membership? Likely no so it's a thanks for including this available for KU members.

Fun suspense read, great narration

Really enjoying this series. Our Hero is such a flawed but skilled bad ass. Really like the details that show the author either did very good research or has an intimate knowledge of military, FBI, and large scale investigations. That, or he’s just really good at making it seem very realistic. Lots of danger, mystery, adventure, and that way Lancaster skirts that rule breaking line. Very fun to read.

Just enough details

I'm not one to read or listen to certain stories.... this book had an important storyline to tell within the pages.

I was thankful that the writer did not feel it necessary to share some of the details that we all know are aweful. However,. always enough to be able to envision thru the reading.

Great story and page Turner. could not wait for my next time to listen to the audiobook.

Jon Lancaster, the very unlikely protagonist!

NO GOOD DEED is Book 2 in the Jon Lancaster and Beth Daniels series. Lancaster is a private investigator working for a charity. His "different" appearance makes his Navy SEAL and cop background seem unlikely. He goes for results and is willing to violate laws to get the intended outcome. Beth Lancaster is a by-the-book FBI agent and is Lancaster's love interest. I'm going to refrain from making specific comments about the plot except to say that Lancaster and Daniels working a case together creates a lot of friction between them. This is an absolutely outstanding series that I highly recommend. Patrick Lawlor narrates superbly.

This,from a veteran author?

This is the second in series of Jon Lancaster. Juvenile writing with a juvenile plot. Our hero has discovered who the murder/kidnappers are right off the bat. He finds a receipt in a TREE on the property of the murder victim. Immediately deduces it fell from her pocket and looking at surveillance videos from the store will identify the killer, REALLY? So the FBI and cops have it all wrong. Yeah, it’s pretty bad. Also gets his 15 yr old victim from the last book to help him with his sleuthing because she is taking a forensic course at school!!! Then there is the FBI agent Beth who we don’t know she will act from one moment to the next. Hateful, bitchy, inept, (hated her in the last book) just plain unlikable all around. Even Patrick Lawlor my favorite narrator can’t save this one. Didn't finish, didn't care.
