"New Rock New Rules" slays the genre...

This is Richard Sparks’ third installment in his magical “New Rock” supernatural fantasy series featuring Battlemage Dax. Richard’s imagination takes full flight with “New Rock, New Rules”. I purchased the audiobook, narrated by the author. Fast paced and energetic the adventure flowed naturally, like a first-person account of incredible events and pursuits.

Richard’s narration brings a cast of original characters to life including our confident and determined hero, Battlemage Daxx. A likeable fellow with all sorts of tricks up his sleeve and formidable spell-craft knowledge. Along with a sturdy group of adventurers; Orc Grell, who’s armed to the teeth, Qrysta, a dancing, sword wielding warrior, sneakthief Oller, and their loveable pup, Little Guy. Their camaraderie reminded me of my own time in the Marines, where your survival is bound to the skills and bravery of the Marine beside you. – where you learn to trust, and grow close through ordeal. Battlemage Dax is hardcore and driven. He’s the leader you want. His chaotic and mixed spell defenses in the most challenging moments feel remarkably organic.

Scenes are richly described, drawing you deep into this mind-bending grand odyssey. With challenges and threats around every corner, Battlemage Daxx skillfully leads us on an exhilarating and suspenseful quest for survival. Oh, and it’s hella funny too. Vastly entertaining from start to its jaw dropping culmination. “New Rock, New Rules” is a magnificent addition to a marvelous series.
