Resumen del Editor

In this practical and lively guide, Whitney Biennial - featured artist and career coach Brainard Carey will teach you about opportunities that you didn’t even know existed!

This book is like a language course that is meant to enhance your ability to communicate your art and creative ideas to the world. In the new millennium, artists must create new models for exhibitions and sales. They must also be aware of new modes of communication, from social networking to the latest mobile phone apps. How we share visual information is radically shifting, and artists can benefit from all of these new tools. In this hyper-competitive world, the latest software and hardware, as it applies to creativity and promotion, is part of a language you must be conversant in. This book works as a course (downloadable syllabus available) and as a companion volume to Carey’s recent book, Making It in the Art World.

Long Title - but good listen for artists

What didn’t you like about Richard Allen’s performance?

I did not like the narrator he had a boring monotone voice and read quite slow. I was able to speed up the playback so it wasn't so bad.

Any additional comments?

If you are an artist or want to know how to sell your artwork online, this book is worth the listen.

The book is quite detailed. The beginning of the book is an introduction of Facebook and Twitter, which might bore most listeners, however the author does mention to skip those chapters if you are familiar with them.

As a whole, I think the book is good and offers listeners a broad spectrum of advice on how to build a following online and sell your artwork.

Carey mostly emphasizes the important of social media and how to use it to build a following for your art. I believe he is spot on in terms of developing a brand for yourself.

worthwhile

This was an informative read. Nothing blew my skirt up, but Carey has some level-headed points. Its always nice to hear a fine art career broken down into steps, just like any other career. It takes long hours and persistence to make money, and even more persistence if your product is as ephemeral as "hugging a stranger" like Carey and his wife. It's honestly amazing that he can make a living doing performance art, but apparently if you follow his advice, you could have a chance too.

For boomers

Teaching you how to use facebook and twitter? How to set a password? Useless information. This was written for old people without a clue. Boring mansplaining read by the most annoying voice I’ve ever heard.

Basic basic basic

I use social media but I don't "USE" social media for marketing. I was hoping to glean some great insights, how-tos, and marketing tips. This book was even more entry level than I had hoped. "How to set up a facebook account" is an entire section. I was hoping for information on social media analytics, what grabs attention, what keeps attention, how exactly does the paid advertising work, ideas for what trends on social media posts, how to sell on Facebook, how to integrate design and social media platforms.... etc.

There was no information in the book that I had not already figured out for myself. YAY ME! I guess. Honestly, I'm not that social media savvy. If you are just starting out and do not know WHAT facebook, Instagram, Twitter and the like, are exactly... then this book is great. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend this book.

The Narrator was easy to understand, he tried to add a bit of dramatic flair, it was interesting but after a while sounded more like a swarm of unhappy bees in a circus tent. Probably an over exaggeration but it is just my opinion. I bet he would be great narrating an apocalyptic themed novel or a drama. I would listen to him again, just not with this subject matter.
