Over 30 tales from the Iroquois depicting Native American Indian life, fables, children’s stories, and fairy tales.

Anyone who likes to hear stories around the campfire will enjoy these fables and tales from the Iroquois. Cub Scouts, Webelos, Boy Scouts, Order of the Arrow, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Explorers, and anyone interested in the traditions of the American Indian tribes.

Children and pre-teens will love these stories - as well as scouts, campers, and adults continuing the oral tradition of sharing these tales around the campfire. Whether listening to these fables outdoors, in the car, at bedtime, or in the classroom, you will enjoy a view into the way that the original Americans saw the world through their folklore and mythology.

This collection of Iroquois folk tales was first published a century ago by a white woman named Mabel Powers. She traveled from wigwam to wigwam, listening and sharing the stories she heard. To preserve them, she wrote them down and was made an honorary member of the Iroquois. She was called, "Yeh sen noh wehs" which means, "one who carries and tells the stories".

These stories represent the great Native American storytellers of the Iroquois: Mohawk, Seneca, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Tuscarora tribes. Many other tribes, such as the Huron and the Cherokee, are sometimes called "Iroquoian" tribes.
