Nadya befriends the more cultured Elizabeth and the prepubescent Jenny, and together, the three young women fight their way across the vast American frontier. En route, they encounter rattlesnakes, Indians, the remains of the cannibalistic Donner party, and Elizabeth's repressed sexuality, which leads to an affair between her and Nadya.

Nadya Review

I enjoyed this book but be forewarned it is not for young adults or others offended by lesbian or mature scenes. (There are not very many). The pace is slower and I enjoyed the narrator. It was an interesting approach to the werewolf legends. I will read more of Pat Murphy's works.
