This fictional novel was written before the other 'Tyranny and Heartbreak' books, but is perhaps the most scary of the four. What if another charismatic, European leader decided to retrace the steps of the national Socialists of the 1930's?
This fictional account of the rise of a Hitler-like figure is something that might not be too far off the mark. Be careful what you wish for. There was a consensus of thought that after the catastrophic loss of life resulting from the depravity of the Nazi era that no such ideology could darken our world again. We were supposed to have learned a lesson from history but after witnessing the defragmentation of Yugoslavia and the subsequent Balkan wars and death camps, the lesson was all too soon forgotten. The only question was - where, when and how could it happen again? Not in Britain, surely?
