The grizzly all but disappeared before the West changed its approach to endangered species in the 1970s. Now we must change again, as this recovered—but deadly—animal rebounds and new threats arise.

My Place Among Beasts is the story of how one woman, sometimes in stitches and sometimes with twitches, discovers that there’s the beast in the woods, and then there’s the beast within.

Outdoor journalist Kris Millgate is a bold storyteller, but she wasn’t born brave. Millgate grew up painfully shy and afraid of beards. She learned to shed those tendencies for a career in journalism. As producer, writer, videographer, photographer, certified drone pilot, editor and gear hauler, Millgate engages in every project with inspiring enthusiasm and unmatched intensity.
