My time in N’Awlins was comprised mostly from 1931 to 1995 and thereafter as two and three day visits to family and friends as time permited.
In retrospect, just as the city of New Orleans is ensconced between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, my life in N’awlins was spent mostly near the River neighborhoods and Lakefront areas.
Unless one lived during the metamorphosis of the changing skyline, it would be hard for one to imagine the many renditions that have taken place. I have posted numerous photographs that may help in assembling the changing images of time.
The politics of New Orleans and the strengths and weaknesses of city leaders through the years have made their effect and differences.
With shifts in populations and cultural changes that have emerged, the evolving evidence and resulting nuances has brought about differences. Some good, and some not as good.
Commercialism and Tourism have become significant influences that have brought about many of the ongoing changes.
The French Quarter is a good bellwether example, in the sense that it emphasizes what is dictated by pumped up commercialism to gratify the hordes of tourists. Digital and social media, cutting edge events, and media relations now predominate in providing incites to the wanderlust.
But even with the many changes to New Orleans, and the many changes to the French Quarter, I still take time to visit and to enjoy the cuisine of selective restaurants and the musical sounds that prevail.
I often tell folks who inquire — that I have not left New Orleans, — but New Orleans may have left me!
I was born in Charity Hospital situated on Tulane Avenue — No longer there.
St. Charles Hotel was a favorite of mine for many years — No longer there.
The legendary landmark statues encountered along the way — No longer there.
BuckTown -- where I was raised during early childhood --- No longer there.
Dan’s First Book, “My N’awlins My Memoirs” tells it All!
Dan’s Second Book, “My N’awlins My Journey” tells More!
In Dan’s mind, his repertoire runs much beyond the gamut of natural treasures.
