Acerca de esta escucha
My Life in China details the author’s experiences as an expat navigating life, work, and culture in China. The book begins with the author’s arrival in China, describing the initial shock of an unfamiliar environment, language barriers, and the overwhelming attention received as a foreigner. This “celebrity” experience, while amusing at first, evolves into an understanding of cultural curiosity rather than personal fame. Throughout the book, the author shares personal challenges and triumphs, from struggling to learn Mandarin to adapting to China’s distinct food culture—where expectations clashed with reality.

Interesting
I really enjoyed the stories of living in a new place, and the humor. I wish it was longer with even more details.

Great story
A gripping, well-paced story that shines through its clarity and conciseness, no unnecessary fluff! While I loved the streamlined approach, a touch more depth on launching the business, the hurdles of getting a driver’s license, and other finer details would’ve added even richer layers. Still, a solid read!

A drive-through bite of China culture
When you're hungry, but short on time, you might go through a fast food restaurant for a quick bite to eat. The quality may coincide with the amount of prep time that was required to hand you the meal, but you still feel satisfied in the end. This short collection of memories of one person's visit, then long stay, in a foreign land and interactions with local people and customs feels about the same. The casual narration and no nonsense delivery gives the listener a clear and personal view of some of the regular, and not so regularly, occurring interactions with cultures, customs, and people. Definitely worth the listen if you had any interest in visiting or living in China. [Disclosure: I received this title for free and listened at 1.7x]

A captivating and personal journey. Told beautifully by the author
This audiobook was absolutely outstanding! The way the author shared his story was so engaging and personal, making it feel like I was right there with him through every experience. His vivid storytelling brought the culture and landscapes to life, and now I find myself even more curious about visiting this incredible place. A truly inspiring listen that stays with you long after it ends!

Perfection is overrated, and this book knows it.
I loved how the book doesn’t take itself too seriously, yet somehow lingers in your mind after you’ve finished. It’s like having a conversation with a friend who’s equal parts comedian and philosopher, you’ll laugh, you’ll nod, and you’ll wonder.
If you’re looking for something lighthearted but layered, absurd yet oddly profound, this book is a gem. Sometimes life isn’t just about escaping reality, but rediscovering it with fresh, curious eyes.

Interesting
I listened to this book and found it to be a pretty good introduction to the rich culture of China. It offered neat insights that have sparked my curiosity, especially since I’ll be traveling there soon. I also enjoyed a few humorous moments that brought a light-hearted touch to the narrative. Although I wish it had been longer with more detailed exploration, overall it was both informative and engaging.
