For it is written "Vengeance is mine. I will repay," sayeth the Lord. (Romans chapter 12, verse 19)
"Life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe." (Exodus chapter 11, verse 23)
Is the Lord working here? Or, is it man?
Bellingham, Northumberland
They stood in a rough circle looking at what lay on the floor at their feet.
One cleared his throat, hawked and spat. The spittle fell beside the dead man's shoe. The other three exchanged glances. Swift, furtive.
The fourth stood tall. "So perish all traitors," he said. Then with economical movements he zipped up his parka jacket, turned up the collar and walked toward the closed door. With his hand on the latch he looked back. "Get rid," he said and left.
There was a collective sigh of released pent-up breath from those remaining.
