dark and twisted

Narration is British and good. But more specific gender characterization would have facilitated my understanding. Does not seem to be related to Edgar Allen Poe book of the same title.

I hate giving bad reviews, but the narrator trashes what might have been okay stories. Why? Aside from having a female narrate a both male characters in the first story, she drones on in a deadpan voice and doesn’t even bother to try differentiating between either character or any character for that matter. It took me several lines before my mind changed from ‘The killer is married?’ to ‘Crap, we’re in a cops head now’. Followed up by, is he divorced and gay, or is the partner he’s talking about his buddy from the job… or both?
The girl tied to a chair doesn’t sound at all scared but bored to tears.
The only murder taking place in these stories is the narrator.
The second story is truly awful. The number of things wrong is too many to count, and it’s not the narrator’s fault.
I'm not wasting time on the third.
Painful to listen too
