An uplifting and humorous story of village life, close knit family and the warm friendship between three recently retired ladies from very different backgrounds. Elizabeth, Anne and Kath meet each week for coffee and cake at their village tea shop run by Earl and his wife Anita. Here the ladies discuss the week’s events, help plan the village fete, organise the WI annual dinner and escape from the builders. Most of all, the tea shop is an oasis of calm in their busy schedules and the three friends look forward to the meetings to regain a little sanity, to enjoy Earl’s excellent home baked cakes and pastries and at least for Elizabeth and Kath, to enjoy a little gossip. There is a rich supporting cast of colourful characters including the ladies’ husbands, children and grandchildren, some very helpful builders and the industrious WI ladies, not forgetting Stanley the Cairn terrier. Over the course of a single year, the three friends help each other through some very difficult situations, dealing with tragedy and heartrending sadness, as well as sharing many very happy times and several hilarious comic situations.
