As a mother of little ones and person who struggles with addiction, I especially found inspiration in it, (even going to try to read ‘ Wonder’ to my deeply emotive 5 yr old)… thanks for writing both such a detailed and yet plainly spoken account of everything. It’s really a treasure.

Simply Amazing

In both the spoken and written versions, I had a hard time pausing this book. I wanted to hear more, but took time to savor each chapter. What a beautifully described memoir of this recovery journey!

The Author is a friend of David Sedaris

The Author is a friend of David Sedaris, as we are reminded of constantly, but she is not David Sedaris, and unfortunately the book was a much darker read than I had expected. I finished it with a mild depression and the wish that I was friends with a best selling author too.

Not for me

This was chosen for a bookclub read & l did not care for it at all.

I like more details.

It is hard for me to review such a personal story, because I do respect the strength that it took to write this. However, I would've liked more details. I feel like a lot of different events were touched upon, but nothing was fully explored.

I wanted to like this

The topic is of interest, that is, what do we tell our children about our past? Should they hear it from us first? Do we give all the details? What if we’ve written a memoir?? (Not a problem for me.) However, the author goes through too many side stories that don’t seem relevant to the topic, and didn’t capture my interest. She didn’t get to the meat of the topic quick enough. After 2 hours of listening, I threw in the towel.
The author reads the book, which is a mistake. Her spoken language is stilted. It seems she pronounces every syllable, of every word.
