JESS GREEN doesn’t like Christmas. The product of an abusive childhood, he prefers to be alone on his ranch with his animals and away from people. When his beloved dog, Timmy, is attacked by a wolf, he rushes him to the town vet clinic only to find that the vet he’d known and trusted has retired and been replaced by a young doctor with the ridiculous name of Candy Kane. Her office is exploding with Christmas cheer, but when she saves the life of his best friend, he has to admit that she’s not so bad.

CANDACE (CANDY) KANE had been in Pine Meadows, Montana, for only six months. The demands of starting her vet practice has kept her from having time to socialize or make many new friends. Overwhelmed by the demands of her job, she welcomes the appreciation shown to her by Jess, the town’s hermit. As she nurses his dog back to health, she realizes there’s more to him that what most people see. She actually grows to enjoy his company, and accepts his invitation to spend Christmas with him.

When Candy’s family shows up unannounced to surprise her on Christmas Eve, it is much more than Jess can handle, and he retreats to the solitude of his ranch. Used to being alone, but suddenly feeling lonely for the first time, Jess must decide what he values most—his peace and quiet, or a woman that he just might be falling in love with.
