How the PRC is Succeeding Economically Where it Failed Militarily in Taiwan

This book examines the relationship between China and Taiwan, specifically in the regards to China’s overt efforts to reclaim control over the island from the time of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in 1949 to the present. The case studies of the three Taiwan Strait Crises (1954-1955, 1958, and 1995-1996) serve as examples of how China has failed militarily in these efforts, while the economic policies of the last 5 years (2009-2014) serve as an example of how the PRC has begun to succeed economically in regaining control over the island. Overall, the question targeted in this book is: Why has China failed militarily in retaking Taiwan and are they succeeding through the use of economic policy?
