Targeting Sweden’s high-profile business leaders, the killer breaks into their homes at night, waits for his victims, places two bullets in their heads with deadly precision, and removes the bullets from the walls—a ritual enacted to a rare bootleg recording of Thelonious Monk’s jazz classic “Misterioso.”
As Hjelm, his young, doggedly energetic partner, Jorge Chavez, and the rest of the team follow one lead after another in their pursuit—navigating the murky underworlds of the Russian Mafia and the secretive members-only society of Sweden’s wealthiest denizens—they must also delve into one of the country’s most persistent ills: a deep-rooted xenophobia that affects both the police and the perpetrator in a small nation that is becoming rapidly internationalized.
The first novel in Arne Dahl’s gripping Intercrime series—widely considered to be one of Sweden’s best—Misterioso is a penetrating, dark, and absorbing introduction to this acclaimed author’s world.

Is there anything you would change about this book?
Well, I with the title and the some of the MO tied a bit tighter to the psychology of the crimes and to its perpetrator. If you’ve listened to books by Arne Dahl and Tiina Nunnally (translator) before, how does this one compare?
Was my fist. Love the narration. Though I wish the reader hadn't "put on" a female voice for the female characters. Cheapens and disctounts those characters a bit. And I really don't think I need the false woman's tone. Don't think it ultimately helps as much as producers seem to think it does. This is more a critique of the producer than it is of the narrator.Have you listened to any of John Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Again, my first.Did Misterioso inspire you to do anything?
Listen to jazz? Play darts? Be a cop? No. It inspired me to watch the show and compare. For me, the TV adaptation focused more on plot points and less on character, mood or situation. So, none of the magic was there for me on the show. The show was empty, utterly, while the book was rich and full.Gritty and intriguing, characters with depth
