Placed on a ventilator for lung failure in 1999, M.K. McDaniel fought for her life in a drug-induced coma for three weeks. During her lengthy recovery, as M.K. reflected on the purpose of her experiences in the afterlife, she recalled the tribulations of her family ancestors and their courage to survive. If they could overcome their overwhelming obstacles, then so could she. As memories of former earthly hellish traumas surfaced and seemed to parallel her actual hell experiences, M.K. sought out others with the same story. She eventually found solace, hope, and understanding at the International Association of Near-Death Studies meetings in Seattle. IANDS offered insights, camaraderie, and a joy she had nearly forgotten to be possible in this life.

Good book but wish it talked more about the NDE. I would recommend it to friends and family.

Story of Redemption

I was initially attracted to this book due to my enthusiasm and fascination with near death experiences. I can not get enough reading and listening to NDE stories. Initially, I was taken back by the fact that this book was as much a memoir as an NDE. But eventually I warmed to it. M.K. has lived a very interesting life, that I could relate to in a number of ways.

I was especially touched by the spiritual experience she had in regards to her recovery from alcoholism. This particular ailment has had a big impact on my families history and I also had a spiritual experience associated with my recovery from the same illness.

M.K. is a good story teller and describes her experiences in a way that is engaging and relatable. I particularly enjoyed listening to it as an audio book.

As far as the NDE is concerned, I loved the sense that even in death there is a redemptive element to our experiences. In this regard, it reminded me of Howard Storm’s NDE. Even in hell he could call out to Jesus. Finally, the practical encouragement towards kindness, mercy, and service and the emphasis on God’s unconditional love provided a fitting end to the book.

Title is misleading

thought this was a NDE book. it's not. but audible suggested it to me right after I finished an NDE book
