Resumen del Editor

On 13 October 1972, the members of a top Uruguayan rugby team were flying over the Andes to play in Chile. Their plane crashed into a mountain and was stranded 11,000 feet up on an inhospitable glacier. Many died instantly in the crash, including the person sitting next to Nando, but others survived. They had almost no food or suitable equipment to withstand temperatures as low as -35C, and had to eat the bodies of their dead team-mates to survive. With the prospect only of a slow death, and no rescue likely, Nando and one of his friends set off on an impossible journey, walking and climbing for ten days in search of help. Finally, after 72 days, the 16 survivors were brought to safety.

The best survival story I know of

Such a heroic bunch of survivors told from within the authors mind and emotions. Really a true miracle they survived a plane crash in a mountain range, lived in it for 60 days and then fuelled on meat from dead bodies walked 70 miles to find help

Pure raw and beautiful

I’m filled with so many emotions and insights after finishing listening to this beautiful book. My lessons won’t be your lessons, so I won’t dive into them. It’s a story about human survival instinct as raw as it comes, courage, emotions and power of LOVE among others.
Audio version at the end has an interview with Nando, and hearing his voice commenting on his journey and book is a great bonus I especially loved. Whole book narration is wonderful in fact. I didn’t read “Alive”, so can’t compare.
All in all, can’t recommend it highly enough, especially audio version.
