Acerca de esta escucha
I am about to become something I didn’t know I could be. And you know what? I like it.
My name is Serena, and for me, my adult life has been nothing short of a fairytale. My early life however; not so great. I suffer from what my therapist calls lost time. I have no memories of my childhood from five to fifteen. Add to that, my crippling fear of the dark and tight spaces, and you can see why I like everything in its proper place in my life.
I thought turning fifty-five would be celebrating surviving another trip around the sun. I mean, I already have everything in life I could ask for; a great career, best friend, and a husband that I would move mountains for.
But on the night of my birthday, I am hit with something that will rock my world forever. A gruesome attack leads to the revelation that my husband is a witch, and that he works for a very shady, very secretive organization.
But it’s not just him. That night my eyes were open to all manner of supernatural beings roaming our community. I’ve been ripped out of my comfortable existence and plunged into a nightmare world filled with things that want my husband dead. But to do that, they’re going to have to get past the new me.
Turns out, this exposure to magic has done wonders for my memory. All these supernatural creatures are frightening…but I may just be the worst of them all.
At this point in my life, I thought I was already who I was meant to be. Imagine my surprise when I realized I am becoming something more powerful and more terrifying, than anything in my wildest nightmares.

AI reading should be banned
No inflection. The story was really good and would have been 5/5 if a human with emotions read it

Virtual voice ruined book
I think the story would have been awesome if not done virtually. It ruined nuances and for a book to be based out of North Carolina, a bad British accent definitely did not jive. I implore the author to reconsider and have a human read. There were several times I almost didn’t finish because the narration was so bad. Virtual voice has no business being in audible books.

Establishment, Men vs Women, Flat performance, Gay marriage ends in death trope
This book is ultimately about the establishment and men vs women as groups, which can be taken anyway the reader likes. The performance lacks the intonation of character and emotion. The story kills off the gay man, which is a bad trope in the queer community. Otherwise the story is average.
