Middle Ground

Johanna Wistfeld felt out of place most of her life. Moved to the new country, then farther west, she lost so much of her family that she was all but alone. However, the Shoshone owned the very land her brother claimed. Joey lost him, soon enough, and was now at loose ends, right in the middle between four vicious tribes, all enemies of one another, and deadly enemies to the palefaces. But she had a secret. Once it was out, spread among the so-called savages, she knew her calling. She could not save everybody, but she could surely try.
