Rural southwest Montana, mid-1980s: Last seen heading out on a late-night winter highway, Kerry McKenna’s car went into the icy water of a Montana river. Some claim it was grief that made her so distracted, even suicidal, because she'd been widowed only months before. There was a funeral and a tombstone set down; only a few people knew that her body was never found. But Kimber has been having dreams about that terrible night when her twin sister disappeared. It’s not Kerry's voice in her head that bothers her—that's always been there. It’s the doubts about the accident, and the details of that report. But why would anyone lie? Did Kerry stumble onto the same thing that got Kerry's husband killed only months before? Is she really dead, or hiding . . . or somewhere in-between?
