Worst. Day. Ever. When Dan starts at a new grade school in the middle of a cold January, he expects to find bullies. He expects to find mean teachers. But attacks from mythical griffins? Well, at least the giant beast scared the bullies away. You gotta count your blessings, right? He and a girl from his class manage to scare the griffin (a griffin that shouldn’t exist!) away by bashing at its beak with a bat. But if his first day was bad, the next day is worse. His first period teacher is one of the mean teachers, for sure. But he didn’t expect her to be quite so … disappointed to see him after the griffin attack. She’s looking at him like she would look at an appetizer! It’s almost like she’s going to unfurl some hidden bat wings and pounce on him … What the heck is going on at this school, anyway?
