Mending Stitch

Carolina left Knoxville trying to escape the abuse. Her daddy and Aunt Sugar let her hide away in Jackson County, North Carolina in the abandoned home of her grandparents. Using her childhood nickname of Stitch, she finds work with four strong women who make it their goal to “mend” her. She grows to love them like family while trying to keep her head down and avoid the man looking to find her. Designing and sewing and a suit for William Cannon draws Stitch’s heart to feel love once again. But she was not free!

With roughened hands and fingers with calluses, the older women sewed clothes, made quilts, and attempted to “Mend Stitch”.
