Maria Miller has never known anything but the Amish life. When the time comes for her to heat out on Rumspringa, an Amish tradition that sends teens into the world and allows them to decide their future, she is terrified. When she runs into Eldon Schrock, a former member, things turn around.

She moves to her brother's community in order to recover and undergoes the care of a local doctor. Dr. Dan Schuler has a lot on his mind. Since his wife died in childbirth, he has healing of his own to do. As Beth and Dan get closer, the realize there is still a lot that keeps them apart.
