Resumen del Editor

Roy O'Connor moves into Memphis with his wife and two children in hopes to start a new life. His dreams are quickly shattered when a destructive earthquake along the New Madrid Fault Line destroys the city of Memphis. After rescue efforts fail and no law and order exist, Memphis falls into chaos. Roy must fight his way through the violent criminals and the desperate to get his family out of the city alive.

This is a speculative fiction that could one day become a reality for the citizens of Memphis and the world to see. All I hope for when that day comes is for the people of Memphis and everyone who lives on the New Madrid Fault Line will prove me wrong on my theory of the violence and how people can become under desperation.

A thought provoking, action packed story

A fast moving story of survival after an earthquake along the New Madrid Fault line destroys Memphis and the surrounding area. Roy O'Conner, an ex-Marine, must protect his family and escape the devastation and violence that explodes around them. A very scary post-disaster story that shows the darker side of human nature. It is very graphically violent and disturbing, illustrating how mob mentality and criminality can create anarchy. A well written, action packed, suspenseful tale that once started is difficult to put down. You quickly become invested in the characters survival, you feel their pain and weep with them in their sorrow as their lives disintegrate around them. If you are not adverse to heartbreak and graphic violence then you will love this thought provoking book. It's only drawback is that, as an audiobook, it would have been better with a male, more animated narrator, as I found the narration a little flat and I felt it did not adequately enhance the story. I did, however, enjoy the singing and the choice of music. I received the audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review.

A very brutal novel with a very good story.

The narrator brings a good emotinal feel to the story that is one of the darkest and most violent novel i have listened to in a long time! The graphic violent descriptions could be to much for people but this story is fast moving once the earthquake happens and is relentness as each chapter passes. The writing is more like a movie with its style to thematics, which is very unique for a novel. I reccommend it for people that love action and suspense.

Great idea--a bit lacking

I'm really not sure how to review this book. I will start off by saying I think the movie would be a lot better than the book. I didn't realize the story was created from a screenplay until the authors comments at the end of the book.

I like the idea of the book. But a book needs a lot more depth than a movie and I think that is what's missing. The characters were okay but they weren't developed to the point that they seemed "real". A lot of things about characters in a movie can be "seen" in a setting. The street they live on, the town or city; hundreds of details of life are visible within a characters home and surroundings. These are the things that give a character "life". There needed to be more descriptions of the details of life. For instance, when David found the box containing his fathers medal of honor descriptions of other items in the box could have added depth to Roy's personality. Items would have been staged for filming; items should have been detailed for the reader.

A story with no point

Any additional comments?

** spoiler alert ** I was offered the audiobook version in exchange for an honest review.

Roy O'Connor moves into his parent's house in Memphis with his wife and two children after having an affair and being fired at work. Things seem to be improving until a series of earthquakes attack Memphis.

I really wanted to like this book, the story was compelling, and the characters were well presented, but I desisted when I found out that the story lead nowhere. I expect an evolution in the characters, something to keep after reading it, but it just built up to nothing. The earthquakes created chaos and allowed the worst in everybody to show up. I know the dangers of the mob, but I always hate when stories try to show the dark side of people after such events. I am aware of the dangers of the mob and the possession of arms, but I find necessary to have a ray of hope in the middle of all devastation. I was not searching for a happy ending, don't get me wrong, I just wanted to be able to get something that was not completely despair. I waited for a new twist that never arrived.
