Combining political intrigue, time travel, family drama, and all the perils that come with being the first at anything, Hugo Award-winning author Philip K. Dick's Martian Time-Slip follows a group of exiled colonists on Mars and the ten-year-old psychic among them, a boy so powerful he not only looks into the future, but can send people there.

"The writing is humorous, painful, awesome in its effect on both mind and heart … There are few modern novels to match it."—Rolling Stone

On an arid Mars, local bigwigs compete with Earth-bound interlopers to buy up land before the UN develops it and its value skyrockets. Martian Union leader Arnie Kott has an ace up his sleeve, though: an autistic boy named Manfred who seems to have the ability to see the future. In the hopes of gaining an advantage on a Martian real estate deal, powerful people force Manfred to send them into the future, where they can learn about development plans.

But is Manfred sending them to the real future or one colored by his own dark and paranoid filter? As the time travelers are drawn into Manfred's dark worldview in both the future and present, the cost of doing business may drive them all insane.

Wasn't really sure what to expect. PKD writing style is early Sci-Fi genre. Unfortunately the download was all jacked up and got stuck in a loop several times, necessitating jumping around to get the story finished. Not sure if the download issue was specific to me or the original recording is to blame.

Story was what I was expecting.

Not Philip K Dick's best work but still awesome. He was such an amazing writer, creating these claustrophobic science fiction stories which was just so unique. I've read/listened so much of his work and never get bored. Martian Time-Slip includes a number of philosophical ideas that were interesting. I love the line: “Everything wears out eventually; nothing is permanent. Change is the one constant of life.”

One thing that I always shrug in PKD's work is that he (and other scifi writers of his time) can never imagine a world without newspapers. Come on, a future civilization on Mars isn't going to read hardcopy newspapers. They are all but obsolete today in 2026.

Edoardo Ballerini is one of my favorite narrators. He does such a great job. I was sold on this audiobook as soon as I saw he was the narrator.

Philip K Dick & Edoardo Ballerini- always great!
