Acerca de esta escucha
Mantalantis ….
An underwater city on the back of a giant manta ray.
A city protected from the weight of the ocean by an occult dome.
A city of secrets, of clandestine coups and civil unrest.
A city plagued by riots, famine, guillotining and ghosts.
Demons rise up from the seabed, from the center of the world.
The power of the Lifegiver is dwindling and, without it, nothing can survive.
The Souverain, the only one who can wield the arcane energies of the Lifegiver, is dead.
Can his son, the Dauphin, save the city he loves and put the wandering spirits to rest?
Or will Mantalantis sink to the bottom of the sea, lost forever?
An epic tale of fencing and family, mermaids and dragons, betrayal and loyalty, magic and mystery …

Good, but could be better
The story is very interesting, but has areas that it could be improved.
Some of the things that took my notice was how often full names and character titles were used, the wording of combat, and the rushed ending.
Honestly I think the book should have been written as a trilogy. it would have given the author more room to give more lore about the demons of the surface and the deep.

Epic
Mantalantis was epic! The narrator did a wonderful job of bringing this story to life. The story has great character development, a well established underwater world. Would definitely recommend to any fantasy lover out there looking for an epic listen.

A Gripping Fantasy
This was my first experience with Ross Hughes' work, and it was fascinating. "Mantalantis" was a city that rested on the back of a manta ray as it glided through the water, but it was a city that was in great difficulty. The worldbuilding was extensive. I liked the characters and the creative beings which populated the world. There was plenty of action. I thought the magic system was inventive, and I liked that there were rules to it. Brian Callanan's narration was fantastic, and his performance added to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review which included my opinions.

a re-read review
Mantalantis: An Underwater Fantasy, my nineteenth read from author Ross C. Hughes. A 14-hour 8-minute/445-page mythical creatures fantasy read. “I received an Audible copy of this book & already owning the Kindle copy of this book and I'm voluntarily leaving a re-read review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
