Funny and insightful look at the state of baseball today

I enjoyed this book immensely. From her descriptions of minor league games on Cape Cod, to her explanations of the economics of MLB, Jane Leavy takes us on a tour of the state of game. I also learned a lot about how statisticians and biophysics engineers are changing the game.

Jane Leavey has lived a life as a baseball fan, writer, and a true lover of the game. What I expected was a baseball top ten book and instead I got an extremely-insightful look at baseball’s current structure. I really loved the CCBL scenes (I grew up near and went to tons of Wareham Gatemen games!).

Make Her Commissioner!

Written only like Jane Leavy could. The book is perfect and demonstrates years of great research. I would have loved to accompany her as it sounded like heaven for a baseball fan. She truly identifies what is wrong with baseball and has viable ideas on how to improve it. She even reads her own book to perfection. The only problem with the end of a Jane Leavy book is that you want another one as soon as it’s done. Great book!

Insightful, impactful, incredible

Jane kills it here. The premise of the story is what brought me here, but the depth of the story telling, the history, the quotes, the access only Jane could have, is what drew me in. Thank you for your efforts of creating such a great product.

I loved the concept that ⚾️ needs to rethink almost everything. I disliked that she virtually ignored the most important position on the field...F2.

Great stories.

Lots of interesting stories and ideas about baseball. Even when presenting her "fixes" that I disagree with. The struggle was with the narration, as it can be when read by the author. It was hard to tell when she was switching back and forth from her voice to other voices. Also, the author didn't have a lot of intonation. I did speed it up a bit and that helped. When I listened to the sample but I bought anyway because I love books about baseball. I probably should have read the book.

Leavy hits it out of the park

I loved Leavy’s biographies of Koufax, Mantle and Ruth. This book is very different, reflecting on baseball’s present. I enjoyed her recounting of many interviews with both the old timers and the folks who are shaping the game (and the players) today. I learned more than I thought I would. But mostly I enjoyed Leavy’s words and perspective. I think the narration was a bit stilted at the beginning, but she eased into the reading as the book progressed and I suspect it feels like having her in your living room regaling you with tales.

Saving Baseball - a More Human Approach To The Game

Authors suggestions to make baseball more fan friendly are a needed breath of fresh air. Her recollections of conversations with former ball players are gold.
