Funny and insightful look at the state of baseball today

I enjoyed this book immensely. From her descriptions of minor league games on Cape Cod, to her explanations of the economics of MLB, Jane Leavy takes us on a tour of the state of game. I also learned a lot about how statisticians and biophysics engineers are changing the game.

Jane Leavey has lived a life as a baseball fan, writer, and a true lover of the game. She weaves stories of some of the most interesting people in the game with a keen insight into the game that will help even a passing fan understand the past, present and the possible. She uses the colorful and opinionated language of a clubhouse, but that does not diminish the validity of the points made. She has a love and passion for the game that is on clear display. What I expected was a baseball top ten book and instead I got an extremely-insightful look at baseball’s current structure. I really loved the CCBL scenes (I grew up near and went to tons of Wareham Gatemen games!).

Make Her Commissioner!

Written only like Jane Leavy could. The book is perfect and demonstrates years of great research. I would have loved to accompany her as it sounded like heaven for a baseball fan. She truly identifies what is wrong with baseball and has viable ideas on how to improve it. She even reads her own book to perfection. The only problem with the end of a Jane Leavy book is that you want another one as soon as it’s done. Great book!

Insightful, impactful, incredible

Jane kills it here. The premise of the story is what brought me here, but the depth of the story telling, the history, the quotes, the access only Jane could have, is what drew me in. Thank you for your efforts of creating such a great product.
