Josie Bainbridge has watched all of her friends get married and despairs of ever finding a husband - especially because her home city of Pullman, Washington has too many women and not enough men. It becomes clear that if she's ever going to find a man of her own, she's going to have to look elsewhere. Josie begins scouring the personal advertisements, hoping to find the man of her dreams. When she comes across one written by a Montana sheriff, she thinks she just might have found him.

In 1890, Echo Canyon, Montana is on the verge of extinction. The gold rush has moved elsewhere along with many of its citizens, including most of the available women. Those who are left are diehards who refuse to leave their hometown. Faced with an uncertain future, a few loyal townspeople create an unusual plan to turn things around in Echo and keep it on the map.

It seems simple: if they can increase their population, it will keep their businesses alive and Echo will survive. They decide that mail-order brides are the best way to make their plan a success. But who will be the first gentleman to order a bride? After a shocking incident in Echo, Sheriff Evan Taft reluctantly decides to step up and give it a whirl. If he can secure a bride, maybe other men will follow him in finding their own wives.

Evan embarks on finding the perfect wife, but can it be done? Evan has been burned in the past and he doesn't want to repeat the experience. Even more than he wants to keep from losing Echo, he doesn't want to lose his heart only for it to be crushed again. Strife and evil forces accompany his search for true love. Will he succeed? The fate of Echo could very well depend on it.

This book was all over the place for me. I liked the main characters and there are a lot of secondary ones who are quirky to the max. I didn’t particularly like the aunt, but most of the others were interesting. There was just soooo much going on. I also thought that many of the phrases used were too modern for the time period. However it has a good storyline with possibilities for the future books.
As to the Audible narrator, he was a train-wreck in my opinion. His accents were not compatible with the characters and I often didn’t know what he was trying to sound like. Even his voice with the main male wasn’t always consistent. It was painful. I won’t listen to him again.

Echo Canyon, Montana in 1890 is swiftly on it’s way to becoming extinct. The gold rush that birthed the town has dried up and moved westward, along with most of the town’s available women. It will take drastic measures to keep the town from emptying completely and destroying the close ties the remaining residents have with each other. In an effort to bring new, single women to the town a few of the residents decide that mail-order brides just might be the solution. Which of Echo Canyon’s remaining resident bachelors can they convince to give their plan a try?

Evan Taft, the single, handsome Sheriff of Echo Canyon, lives in town with his elderly Aunt Edna. Edna may be elderly but she rarely acts her age and is a treasured resident of Echo Canyon. She charges all of Evan’s gentlemen friends a small fee to enter their home. They must all remove their shirts upon entering the house and present themselves for her to gaze upon their fine physiques. Evan puts up with this ritual because it brings her such pleasure. Edna is very grateful to and proud of the man that her nephew has become but she wishes he would find a nice woman, settle down, and start a family. Evan has been burned by love in the past and is leery about trying again, but the townspeople and Aunt Edna convince him to post an ad for a bride. Aunt Edna writes the ad for him and it ends up in the newspaper in the city of Pullman, Washington, which seems to be overrun with single women.

Josie Bainbridge has nearly given up hope of ever finding a husband in Pullman and decides to peruse the personal ads in her hometown’s newspaper. Evan’s (Aunt Edna’s) ad catches her eye and she decides to answer it. Josie will travel to Echo Canyon to meet and get to know Evan, but not without a few bumps in the road.

So begins the saga of the Echo Canyon Brides. This is a rousing start to this series that brings new hope, new residents, and new opportunities to the tiny town. With the authors colorful characters and descriptive charm the town of Echo Canyon comes to life and makes you want to read more about life in Montana in the late 1800s. A truly enjoyable read beginning to end.
