An enemies to lovers steamy quick read.

Lizzie
I’m in debt up to my ears, profits are tanking, and I need to turn my bath bomb business around or I’ll be out on the street.
So I’m not happy when a competing stall opens up. Then I meet the guy running it, Asher, with his easy smile and a salesman’s charm. One look and he’s got my heart racing and my lady bomb fizzing.
But this market isn’t big enough for the both of us, and I’ve worked too hard on my business to give it up now. No matter how hard he turns the charm on me; the competition is on.

Asher
I’m helping out at a market stall when I meet Lizzie. From the moment I see her, I know she’ll be mine. I’m drawn to her luscious curves, swaying hips, and focused determination.
Not only is she stealing my customers, but she’s stealing my heart too.

If you’re thinking about picking up Lizzie by Sadie King… just know I went in curious and came out deeply unsettled — and not in a fun, thriller-loving way.

From the very first chapters, there’s this sticky, grimy atmosphere that clings to you. The tone isn’t just dark — it’s suffocating. Everything feels damp, morally rotten, and vaguely sour. The main character spirals in a way that’s meant to be intense and raw, but instead it just made my stomach churn. It’s like watching someone pick at a scab for 300 pages straight.

The imagery? Uncomfortably vivid. Not poetic. Not artful. Just… invasive. There were multiple moments where I physically scrunched my face and had to put the book down. The author leans hard into obsession and decay, and while I appreciate psychological darkness (I mean, I love a good twisted story), this crossed into territory that felt deliberately icky rather than compelling.

And the relationships? Toxic doesn’t even begin to cover it. Every interaction felt manipulative, grimy, and emotionally festering. Instead of tension, I felt revulsion. Instead of intrigue, I felt like I needed a shower.

To be fair, Sadie King clearly commits to the tone. If the goal was to make readers uncomfortable — mission accomplished. But for me, it tipped past “disturbing but meaningful” into “why am I doing this to myself?”

Overall rating: ⭐⭐ (for commitment to the vibe, I guess).
Would I reread it? Absolutely not.
Did I finish it? Yes. Regretfully.

This is nasty
