Career Planning for a Happier Life

Take ownership of your career path. This is your unique journey. The upheaval marking the early 2020s has created the “great opportunity”—an unprecedented chance to prioritize your life and decide what you really want from your career. You can now create a strong personal brand and pursue career activities that are authentic to your goals, not your employer’s. It is within your reach to have autonomy and control over your career, have greater clarity of your priorities, and align your career around the life you want to live.

Live for a Living is a guide to designing a life that leverages your personal values, motivators, and goals in your career. With inspiring case studies, accessible exercises, and online self-assessments, authors Caligiuri and Palmer reveal how to identify your ideal career, then purposefully expand and create career-related activities to do more of what you love.

Distinguished business professor, speaker, and author Paula Caligiuri joins forces with award-winning serial entrepreneur Andy Palmer to bring you a timely resource on crafting income-producing career activities that result in more professional excitement, personal fulfillment, and financial security. Are you ready to take control of your career?

Paula and Andy are fantastic at articulating living

Paula and Andy give step by step career and life maximizing advice that is set apart from so many of the other career books. Their approach is grounded and proven in their own experiences as well as their professions - Paula as an academic psychologist and Andy as an entrepreneur. Grateful for authors like this.

Excellent guide for charting your career path

This book provides lots of practical advice along with tools and checklists to support your efforts in charting the career path you want and then making the necessary "career acts" along the way. It's a useful resource no matter what stage of life or your career you're in.

I love the concept the authors (who are very good narrators, by the way) put forth about figuring out what roles and tasks put you in a “state of flow.” People can often be good at many things and therefore continue doing those things in their career, but it doesn’t mean those are the things you love to do or put you in a state of flow.

in the chapter about being indispensable, the “CURVE” advice is excellent. In particular I love the description for the “R” and how the authors talk about reliability not just being about doing what's expected but also going above and beyond. I'm often surprised how many people I've worked with in my career don't appreciate the importance of this, especially as it relates to their own career advancement.
