"Lightning and Static Charge" is a Science-Technology-Engineering-Math (STEM) book. It answers the question "What Is Electricity" through a series of illustrations, stories, science, history, and experiments. This book is a great self-study course for homeschoolers, distance learners, and summer enrichment. It is intended for someone with basic algebra skills who can use a calculator (e.g. age 9 and up).
The book starts out with the basics - lightning and static charge (aka "static electricity"), and then delves into the structure of the atom, conductors, and insulators. Experiments at the end of each chapter insure the reader has mastered the material before moving on to the next topic.
The book is not only a science book as it also delves into the history of the science and the great scientists: Ben Franklin, Niels Bohr, Rutherford, Dalton, Newton, and others.
At the end of each chapter and each experiment is a short quiz, which further reinforces the material .
After working through the book, the reader will not only have an understanding of lightning, static charge, the atom, conductors, and insulators, but will also have an appreciation for the historical timeline and how we got where we are today.
