Resumen del Editor

The International Best Seller

On April 10, 2019, award-winning astrophysicist Heino Falcke presented the first image ever captured of a black hole at an international press conference - a turning point in astronomy that Science magazine called the scientific breakthrough of the year. That photo was captured with the unthinkable commitment of an intercontinental team of astronomers who transformed the world into a global telescope. While this image achieved Falcke’s goal in making a black hole “visible” for the first time, he recognizes that the photo itself asks more questions for humanity than it answers.

Light in the Darkness takes us on Falcke’s extraordinary journey to the darkest corners of the universe. From the first humans looking up at the night sky to modern astrophysics, from the study of black holes to the still-unsolved mysteries of the universe, Falcke asks, in even the greatest triumphs of science, is there room for doubts, faith, and a God? A plea for curiosity and humility, Light in the Darkness sees one of the great minds shaping the world today as he ponders the big, pressing questions that present themselves when we look up at the stars.

Humanity great journey into the unknown

Aside from teaching me about the long way we went in astrophysics, this books made me realize how many people are involved nowadays to make those groundbreaking discoveries. It also made me feel like I was part of the whole enterprise.

The only thing i didn't like was last chapter where author tried to rationalize his religious beliefs: "Sience can't disprove god and I'm emotionally attached to Jesus, hence im Christian, but its ok if you believe in another deity or no such thing at all..." Cool stuff herr author, whole last chapter apologetics is kinda weak and made you sound like you feel somehow ashamed in having believes in front of other scientists. You don't have to do that.

Very well done!

Very well done!
It’s amazing to hear someone cover near the whole of the things we know, and think we know about the past. And also the future of knowledge!

One of the best astronomy book with latest details

I read many astronomy books previously. But this book is very good in its own, There are many reasons I like this book. Few of them are, The introduction in the beginning of the book where the author explains all the objects in universe. Not all are new, but good to remember before the expedition starts. Explanations about how the astronomical observations are conducted. Minute details about the places the author travelled for different observations, people he worked with and about the food he got etc. The details about the after math of release of the black hole image release.

I specially like last chapter where the author questions about the creation of universe, what's in the north of north pole etc. Which I also have same question. May be I'm not the same religion as the author, So God can change. But the question and belief remain same. This audio book includes a glossary which is welcome addition.

Overall, I loved the book and planning to hear again soon...
