In today's post-truth political landscape, there is a carefully concealed but ever-growing industry of organized misinformation that exists to create and disseminate lies in the service of political agendas. Ari Rabin-Havt and Media Matters for America present a revelatory history of this industry - which they've dubbed Lies, Incorporated - and show how it has crippled legislative progress on issues including tobacco regulation, public health care, climate change, gun control, immigration, abortion, and same-sex marriage.

Eye opening and indispensable, Lies, Incorporated takes an unflinching look at the powerful network of politicians and special interest groups that have launched coordinated assaults on the truth to shape American politics.

i personally would have liked more fleshing out but ultimately the info and the overall point of the work was imperative to our current society. we are literally paralyzed in the country and in an effort to cope we willingly inguage in group delusion that we are somehow THE shinning example of a democratic western nation. If we don't have authors that are willing to talk sense when it's not easy is priceless to our nation.

definitely good and important info

They may call it an opinion, a perspective, but lies is exactly what large corporations, media, politicians do, and this book exposes them for what they are, with clear examples. There is nothing new about people lying. It is that they are still presented as experts, a credible source and are provided a forum to spread their lies is what this book is about and what is disturbing in our modern society.

The author brings out some of the most outragious lies made of recent, shows with clear examples and different references that these lies have been debunked, yet the liars gain credibility, money, and prestige.

No one is under oath, so lying becomes the norm. It is a world were soundbites and sensationalism makes the news. There is so much BS out there, the author focuses on just some of it, and those that perpetrate it.

I wish the author brought out some more of the highly dubious and questionable issues presented to us as facts, but all in all a great read.

We live in a world controlled by lies

This book exposes clearly many fundamental lies in popular political controversy, and why we are so polarized. And it lays out the by whom and for what agenda.

Fundamental to understanding politics today.

What did you like best about this story?

Provides an inside look at modern propaganda in action.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The story of the gun lobby's propaganda after the Sandy Hook school massacre moved me to rage just like the days and weeks immediately following the tragedy.

A sobering look at our new fact-free world

Not that it should be easy to prove because we definitely want to protect free speach, but lies of the nature discussed in this book are like intellectual terrorism. This activity going unchecked by criminal consequences will be much more destructive to our democracy than any foreign power or terrorist organization could possibly be.

Conspiracy to disseminate lies should be a crime.
