Embarking on a journey that began in 1969, I found myself captivated by the simple yet profound art of kite flying. This passion has not only allowed me to dance with the winds but has also connected me to a rich tapestry of history and culture that spans centuries and continents.

Kites have always been more than mere toys; they are embodiments of human ingenuity and the timeless desire to touch the sky. Originating in China around 200 BC, kites were initially tools of war and communication. General Han Hsin of the Han Dynasty famously used a kite to measure the distance for tunneling into a besieged city, showcasing the strategic importance of these airborne devices.

As centuries unfolded, kites transcended their utilitarian origins, becoming symbols of artistic expression and cultural identity. In Korea, during the Silla Dynasty around the year 600, General Gim Yu-sin used a large kite to carry a fireball into the sky, restoring his troops' morale by dispelling superstitions.

My personal voyage into the world of kites began amidst the cultural renaissance of the late 1960s—a time when the skies were filled with vibrant designs and the spirit of innovation. In 1969, the Japan Kite Association was founded by Shingo Modegi and 14 other enthusiasts in Tokyo, marking a significant moment in contemporary kite history.

Kite festivals around the world have become gatherings of diverse cultures, each bringing unique designs and flying techniques. These events are not just about the spectacle of colorful kites against the sky but also about the stories, traditions, and passions they represent.

Throughout the decades, my passion for kites has remained unwavering. From participating in international festivals to mentoring young kite flyers, I've witnessed firsthand the joy and unity that kiting brings to people of all ages and backgrounds. The sky, a vast canvas, has been the backdrop to countless memories—each flight a testament to the enduring magic of kites.~
