Acerca de esta escucha

The idyll of Blandings Castle is about to be disturbed, for the Hon. Freddie Threepwood is poised to make his debut as a jewel thief. Freddie, however, is not alone: Blandings is simply brimming with criminals and impostors all intent on stealing Aunt Constance's 20,000 pound diamond necklace. It is left to the debonair Psmith, with his usual aplomb, to unscramble the passion, problems, and identities, of one and all.©2014 P.G. Wodehouse (P)2014 Audible, Inc. Clásicos Literatura y Ficción

If you are new to Wodehouse, “Leave it to Psmith” is a great place to start. I was so happy to see that Chivers finally released the title to Audible. Jonathan Cecil’s reading is more of a performance, than a reading, both rich and full of character; Cecil’s voice brings Wodehouse to life. The story contains several of my best loved Wodehouse moments, the infamous “pale parabola of joy”, the wonderful image of a muddily yet efficient secretary throwing flower pots thought windows, along with a pistol wielding poetess.

My advice, scoop this one up, and fast.

Best of the Psmith series

If you like other Wodehouse books or books similar to Charlie's Aunt or the Importance of Being Ernest then you will probably like this. Light hearted and fun even though you know how it is going to end.

I really enjoyed listening to this book

This book is fantastic, one of my favorite titles by Wodehouse. While listening to this title, I had an epiphany about the inspiration and influence that Douglas Adams found in the work of P.G. Wodehouse, especially for the Dirk Gently series by Adams - my absolute favorite books. The writing style, clever use of the English language, and the fundamental interconnectedness of all things (including all elements of the plot) brought me to a new of appreciation of both authors' work.

Fundamental Interconnectedness of All Things

If you haven't tried Wodehouse yet you have a treat in store, unless you are among the one in four whose reading age is in single figures. Readers of Wodehouse need no recommendation from me. There is a trove of treasure to be enjoyed. Jonathan Cecil's own voice is perfect but his expertise with other voices could be improved.

Classic Wodehouse

Now only second to A Damsel in Distress on my favorites list, Leave it to Psmith is a rollicking, well-dressed tale. Be warned the audio is a little off balanced so that it is hard to listen to playing on speakers. Earbuds or headphones recommended.

Now on my top three Wodehouse list

This is my first encounter with Psmith. Such a fabulous creation, and I particularly loved hearing him in action at Blandings. I'm now off to find more Psmith, as this is exactly the kind of escapism I need on my commute!

Delightful

Another fine example of Wodehouse's mastery of comic prose.
Story was engaging, delightful and hilarious from wire to wire.
Jonathan Cecil did a bang up job of almost all of the many guests of Blandings Castle though I will admit his Canadian/American voices were a bit off the mark. Sounded a bit like a mashup of a Brooklyn gangster and a West Country farmer.

Also some mild technical issues throughout. The sounds levels vary wildly between chapters. So alas, I can't give this audiobook a 5/5 across the board.

An overall treat.

Where does Leave it to Psmith rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Psmith is the best of Wodehouse's characters--better even than Bertie & Jeeves--and Jonathan Cecil is the king of Wodehouse narrators.

LOVE Psmith & Cecil

All the assumptions and misunderstandings make this story as funny as most of the P.G. Wodehouse collection. The characters are hilarious and Mr. Cecil's reading and imaginative voice casting to each of them makes the story and cast even more memorable. However, the major downfall was the audio. It's very obvious when listening that the quality of the audio keeps changing. Unfortunately, the sound volume keeps getting softer and more distant as the story progresses which makes it very hard to listen to. If they get the sound volume adjusted correctly then I would give the overall rating 5 stars.

Funny Story but Poor Audio
