Meanwhile, some incidents in her town show her that many Civil War-era prejudices still survive and that the past can keep repeating itself if we let it. Digging into her past shows Lou that it's never too late to fight injustice, and she starts to see the real value of understanding and exploring her roots.

This book has lots of information about the Civil War and Tennessee very interesting.

This book is phenomenal. I love how the mystery within the book is based on a time period long ago and how you get to experience some suspense at certain points. If you love a book with a mystery, this one is just for you!😀

Great Middle Grades coming-of-age

This book has it all- history, mystery, heart, friendship, family, and faith. A must-have for libraries, classrooms, and homes.

Should be made into a movie!

Loved the story.! We listened to it on a road trip with our daughter. My husband couldn’t resist the gold story and continued to listen long after she and I fell asleep.

Someone should tell Oprah and Reese Witherspoon to make this into a movie!
